There are many ways to enhance magic. The use of Foci (such as staves, wands and orbs) to store and channel larger quantities of mana than one normally could is the most commonly known form. Ritual Circles drawn on the ground allow for more powerful spells to be cast safely, directing a portion of the mana involved through the glyphs and sigils in the circle rather than the caster's own body. Less commonly known is Communal Casting - multiple spell-casters invoking the same spell in unison, thereby magnifying its potential power severalfold. Trying to overcome a combination of long-forgotten Molen civil engineering enchantments and the protective wards of a Spirit on its own Shrine is no small feat - hence why they're deploying all three methods simultaneously, in the hopes it'll be enough to do the job before whatever's happening within is too far done to stop.
